How They Work The Township Advisory Committees play a vital role in balancing the social service needs of the Township while serving as stewards of Township tax dollars. The Agency Oversight committee reviews grant proposals and makes recommendations to the New Trier Township Board regarding grants to non-profit agencies serving Township residents. Members act as stewards for Township funds, monitor the agency's programs and performance and identify unmet needs within the community. The Money Follows the Person committee reviews grant requests from agencies that serve clients with mental illness and developmental and other disabilities. It is also responsible for exploring and expanding the concept of money follows the person, a new mechanism of funding for persons with disabilities in that the individual receives funding instead of an agency, and the individual can choose the programs and services that best meets their needs. The Special Projects/Strategic Planning committee prioritizes projects identified in the Strategic Plan and makes suggestions for new programs and services that may be needed in the community. It offers some members the opportunity to work on short-term projects and stay in touch with new and emerging issues and needs in the community. The fourth committee - the Township Committee on Disabilities - is organized to represent people with disabilities. Its purposes are: Identifying the needs of citizens with disabilities. Assisting in the implementation of the Illinois Accessibility Code and the Americans With Disabilities Act. Educating the community about integrating individuals with disabilities into the community. Enhancing the self-sufficiency and quality of life for people with disabilities. | How to Get Involved Serving on a Committee is a great way to become involved in the life of the Township.
